Dear Friends: Thank you for visiting our website, browsing through the various sections, and learning about our tribe, its history, and our economic developments. Our ancestors, those who have walked before us, have left many legacies that, with great pride, we continue to live and build on today. By bestowing cultural wisdom through generations, we are able to teach our youth the early ways of the Chumash, learn the traditional language of our people, and educate the public about who we are as a tribe and as individuals. We honor our ancestors by reaching out to our neighbors and caring for our community. There is a term our ancestors used to represent “generosity” – it is ‘amuyich. In fact, ‘amuyich is the basis behind the decision to establish the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation in 2005. Creating the Foundation allowed us a more structured philanthropic program that enabled us to partner with a number of organizations that have enhanced the lives of residents throughout Santa Barbara County and beyond. Over the years, our tribe has committed nearly $13 million to the community. A copy of our most recent Foundation Report can be found here or you can follow the Santa Ynez Chumash Foundation link on the right to access Foundation guidelines, grant applications, and application instructions. It is our greatest honor to serve our community. By doing so we continue to walk the good path that has been paved for us and keep the ways of our ancestors close.
Sincerely, Vincent
